Electrical safety testing: protective earthing and RCDs

Earthing and RCDs are protections employees never see - until they need them. We test them with instruments, document them and state clearly what must be fixed.

What the service includes

  • Protective earth measurement

Continuity and resistance of the protective conductor at sockets and equipment.

  • RCD testing

Measurement of trip current and trip time of residual current devices.

  • Installation checks

Condition of distribution boards, cables and connections; signage and safe access.

  • Lightning protection

Condition checks of the building’s lightning protection system.

  • Measurement protocol

Measured values for every point, with a compliance assessment.

  • Corrective actions

Defects listed by severity and re-testing after repair.

What we measure, and in which unit.

Every parameter is reported with the measured value, location, instrument and a comparison with the permitted limit for that workplace.

  • ΩProtective earthing resistance
  • msRCD disconnection time
  • mARCD tripping current
  • MΩInsulation resistance

How we work

  1. Preparation

Diagrams, boards, circuits and points to be tested.

  2. Visual check

Condition of the installation, signage and mechanical protection.

  3. Measurements

Earthing, continuity and RCD testing with instruments.

  4. Protocol

    Values, assessment and defects found.

  5. Re-test

Verification after repairs by your electrician.

Frequently asked questions

How often should earthing and RCDs be tested?

Periodically and after any change to the installation. Frequency depends on the type of building, conditions of use and legal requirements.

Is the “TEST” button on the RCD enough?

The button only shows that the mechanism moves. It does not measure trip current or trip time - that requires a test instrument.

Does power need to be switched off?

Most measurements are made with the installation live. RCD testing causes a short circuit disconnection, so it is coordinated in advance.

Do you repair defects?

HSK tests and documents. Repairs are carried out by your authorised electrician; afterwards we re-test.
